Bushcraft Basics: Fireside Cookery - February 17th, 2018


Bushcraft is about thriving in the natural environment, and the acquisition of the skills and knowledge to do so. Bushcraft skills include fire craft, tracking, hunting, fishing, shelter-building, navigation by natural means, the use of tools such as knives and axes, foraging, water sourcing, hand-carving wood, container construction from natural materials, and rope and twine making, among others.

Put your boots on and join Lori as she heads in the woods and shares with you her fireside cookery skills. This is an instructional and delicious way to arm yourself with the confidence to head off into the woods having the skills you need to feed yourself well. During our time we will cover several styles of fire, tinder, homemade fire starters and flints then you will each practice with making your own fire. From there we will learn how to use several backpacking stoves and how to cook some simple but savoury meals. Join in learning some new outdoor skills to pass along to the next generation or take on your next outdoor adventure.  This is a wonderful opportunity to spend time detached from busy, modern life with your family.

  • This workshop starts at 10am.This will be a 3 to 4 hour outdoor workshop, please dress accordingly. Finishing with a traditional boil up around 1pm
  • The price for the Cook By Fire Workshop is $150 plus HST per person
  • All trips are weather dependant, We reserve the right to cancel within 12 hours notice due to poor weather. In which case you will be refunded . 
  • Proper footwear is always recommended, snowshoes hiking boots etc. It is always good to dress in layers as weather can be quite unpredictable.
  • Children above the age of 8 years old are welcome but please be aware of what this workshop entails before booking . 
  •  Maximum of 10 people per trip. This enables a hands-on and personal approach so you can get the most out of your learning experience.
  • Due to the nature of who we are and the experience we are trying to create for you very few dietary restrictions can be accommodated. We will only be serving local wild edibles, fish and game during this workshop.
